Councilmember Rink and Land Use Chair Solomon told colleagues June 30 that the council will consider a bill to streamline subdivision approvals by delegating final action to the appropriate department after the hearing examiner issues a decision.
Under current practice the council votes to codify hearing-examiner decisions; the sponsor said the hearing examiner's decision effectively compels council approval but the codification process adds months between decision and final action. The proposed bill would allow delegation of final approval and shorten the timeline, the sponsor said.
The measure is scheduled for a Land Use Committee briefing and discussion; sponsors said the change is intended to speed housing project timelines by removing redundant council codification steps. No formal ordinance vote occurred at the June 30 briefing.
