Somers Point council endorses Planning Board’s housing element, fair-share plan

The Somers Point City Council voted to endorse the housing element and fair-share plan adopted earlier by the Planning Board, after a presentation from Tim Kinnearn of Colliers Engineering and Design.

Council members thanked Colliers staff and the city’s affordable housing attorney for preparing the materials. A council member said the Planning Board had adopted the plan unanimously and characterized the submission as comprehensive; the council then approved the plan by roll-call vote to confirm the Planning Board’s action.

The endorsement attaches the Planning Board’s housing element and fair-share strategy to the city’s land-use code, aligning local planning documents and allowing the municipality to proceed with the next administrative steps for compliance with state fair-share housing obligations. Council members singled out the Summers Point Apartments discussion within the plan when explaining their support.

No amendments or changes to the adopted plan were made at the council meeting; staff and council thanked the consultants and the Planning Board members for their work on the plan.
