The Santa Fe Springs City Council unanimously selected Option 1, a locomotive float design with the city’s Heritage Park heart motif on the front, as its entry in the 2026 Pasadena Tournament of Roses parade.
Community Services Director Maricela Balderas summarized the city’s participation and reported the council previously approved a multi‑year participation and an agreement with Phoenix Decorating Company to design and build the float. Phoenix presented three concept designs to the Heritage Arts Advisory Committee, which recommended Option 1 with the addition of the “Welcome to Santa Fe Springs” sign.
Representatives from Phoenix Decorating Company described the locomotive concept as visually forward and appropriate for parade judging and spectators. Councilmembers discussed placement of the heart motif and the city sign; staff and Phoenix confirmed the client sign will appear on the camera side and that the selection includes the heart on the front of the float.
A councilmember moved to select Option 1 with the heart on the front; the motion carried unanimously. Councilmembers and Phoenix staff thanked volunteers and noted opportunities for public volunteer days when final decoration occurs.
The city will continue coordination with Phoenix Decorating Company on construction and volunteer opportunities; staff said they will return with dates for public decorating events.
