Lucas County facilities director Jeff Nowak asked the Board of Commissioners on Tuesday to approve a contract with Norman Roofing to replace the roof at the Lucas County Emergency Management Services Center.
Nowak said the county previously obtained roof assessments and prioritized this replacement as preventative maintenance. Three bids were received; Norman Roofing submitted the lowest and best bid at $224,117. Nowak said the contractor’s approach uses a larger crane for access rather than the scaffolding assumed by other bidders, which helps explain the lower bid. He added that Norman Roofing has worked with the county on past projects and staff had no reservations about the contractor.
The commissioners approved the contract by roll call. Nowak said the work follows prior condition assessments and is intended to avoid larger future repair costs by replacing the roof based on age and condition.
