Man pleads in aggravated-robbery case; judge sentences to 8 years with deadly‑weapon finding

Jeremiah Melvin Simmons pleaded no contest to aggravated robbery and received an eight‑year prison sentence and a $2,000 fine after Judge Stephanie Boyd accepted stipulated documentary evidence in the 187th District Court.

Prosecutors and defense counsel presented a plea agreement under which punishment was assessed at eight years with an affirmative finding that a deadly weapon was used. Simmons waived a jury trial and consented to stipulations of testimony and documentary exhibits, which the court accepted into evidence.

Judge Boyd told Simmons the range of punishment for aggravated robbery and that by entering the plea he waived rights to a jury and to confront witnesses. The judge imposed the agreed sentence, entered the affirmative deadly‑weapon finding and ordered no contact with specified victims including Samantha Rendon and Destiny Macias.

The court also noted credit for time served where applicable and memorialized other standard admonishments, including the defendant's forfeiture of the right to appeal under the plea waiver. Following the sentence, the court advised Simmons about the potential parole-stage implications of the conviction and recommended compliance with post‑conviction requirements.
