At the July 9 pre-agenda meeting, Punta Gorda City staff told council members that Fisherman’s Village had a contract with a prospective buyer but the sale had not officially closed.
A council member asked, "Has Fisherman's Village officially been sold or not?" City staff replied that negotiations and discussions continue. Staff said they received a letter from the receiver in mid-June and that the receiver and potential new owners recently sought to meet with city officials, including Dr. Reichardt, to present proposals.
City staff also said the city’s legal department has placed the potential filing of a reverter deed on its calendar for next week and that council members would be asked on Wednesday whether to proceed with that filing. Staff emphasized that a meeting with the receiver or prospective buyers does not guarantee any outcome; such meetings would be to "sit down and give us their ideas."
No sale closing was reported at the pre-agenda session, and no formal council action on the reverter deed was taken at that meeting. Council members indicated timing is important and that they would consider the matter during the upcoming regular agenda.
