Council to vote on dissolving Transportation Commission and reassigning duties

Staff presented a resolution to dissolve the Transportation Commission and realign its duties with two existing commissions, and the council signaled support to vote on the measure at the next meeting.

The Transportation Commission was created in 2023 to focus on surface transportation matters including airport, streets, bicycling, pedestrian infrastructure and transit, staff explained. Over the past two years, membership has mainly consisted of individuals interested in airport economic growth; staff said that alignment creates a reasonable next step of dissolving the commission and reallocating responsibilities.

Under the proposal, commission members primarily focused on airport economic growth could join the Economic Development Commission, and the Neighborhood Commission's scope would expand to include surface transportation needs such as multiuse paths, sidewalks and transit. Staff noted both commissions already engage with those topics and the change would consolidate related work.

Staff said the resolution (2025-060) will be on the council agenda Thursday for a formal vote. Councilmembers present offered no objection during the work session.

No formal vote occurred during the work session; the matter will be before the council for action at the next regular meeting.
