Clerk seeks emergency ordinance to adopt municipal code quarterly supplement

The clerk told the Committee of the Whole on July 10 that the city received a codified ordinances quarterly supplement under a new agreement with Walter Drain. Due to a backlog in files, the second update covers the first five months of 2025 rather than three. The clerk requested authorization to prepare an ordinance with an emergency clause so the changes could be adopted and take effect immediately upon passage.

A motion to have legislation drawn up for the municipal codified ordinances supplement passed by roll call. Staff asked the clerk to proceed with drafting the emergency ordinance for adoption at the next regular council meeting.

Why it matters: Codification supplements update the municipal code with ordinances, corrections and administrative changes. An emergency clause would make those updates effective immediately upon council passage.
