Board attorney reports no legislative changes affecting local pension plans; trustees reminded to file financial disclosures

Pedro, the board attorney, told trustees at the July 10 meeting that the 2025 Florida legislative session produced no enacted changes that would affect the local firefighter pension plan.
He said two bills had been filed earlier in the session related to the Florida Retirement System COLA but that they did not advance to committee assignment and therefore did not become law. Pedro described the lack of legislative change as "no news from the legislature," and said that, from his perspective, that was positive for the pension plan.
Pedro also reminded trustees about annual financial-disclosure filings that are due July 1 under applicable Florida disclosure requirements; he urged trustees who had not yet filed to prioritize completing the electronic form through the administration portal.
No formal legal action was taken at the meeting; Pedro said he would follow up on routine housekeeping items as needed and answered trustees' questions about potential legislative developments.
