Sheriff’s office grant awards, camera fund carryovers approved; board accepts two grants totaling about $37,987 and $14,000

The Board of Supervisors approved several law-enforcement and emergency-services funding items Thursday, including carryover of previously approved body-worn‑camera subscription funds and acceptance of grant awards for speed-trailer and radar equipment and for EMS cots.
County staff said the sheriff’s office previously received board approval to pursue a law enforcement equipment grant to purchase a radar unit and a speed trailer; the grant award totaled $36,487 with a local match component for equipment and subscription costs. The difference between the original request and awarded amount reflects an ineligible subscription cost under the grant; the local match was adjusted accordingly. The board authorized acceptance of the award and approved a supplemental appropriation totaling $37,987 (federal funds $36,487 and local match $1,500) to place the grant into the sheriff’s budget. The sheriff will purchase equipment and seek reimbursement per the grant's reimbursement schedule.
Separately, staff requested carryover of $70,675.20 in body‑worn camera funds that had been previously allocated; the board discussed paying subscription fees annually versus upfront and agreed to defer any change in payment schedule to a later meeting when all supervisors are present. The motion to carry the funds forward passed.
County staff also reported a Rescue Squad Assistance Fund award for EMS cots in the amount of $14,000. The total cot purchase cost is $35,528; staff proposed using EMS-billing funds for the local match and said a supplemental appropriation for the local match would be considered at a later date. The board authorized acceptance of the Rescue Squad award.
