The Westerly School Committee on June 18 moved into executive session under Rhode Island General Laws governing closed meetings to discuss collective bargaining negotiations with Local 808 and later voted to keep the minutes of the executive session confidential.
Chair opened the motion citing R.I. Gen. Laws §§ 42-46 and 42-46-5(a)(2) (collective bargaining). The committee voted to enter executive session; the transcript records no votes taken while in executive session. After returning to public session, the committee approved a motion to keep the executive-session minutes confidential by voice vote.
The committee did not disclose the content of the executive-session discussions in open session and recorded that no votes occurred during the closed portion of the meeting. Staff and members indicated they will report further only as permitted under the applicable statutes and collective bargaining rules.
