Public commenter alleges police intimidation; commission offers follow‑up meeting and July agenda slot

A man who identified himself as a relative of an individual named Shane Nederville told the Fargo Human Rights Commission on June 19 that he believes he has been subjected to intimidation and aggressive police behavior over several months.

"From January until now I have been attacked by the police and I don't even know if I should have been here today because they used their intimidation tactics just a week ago on me with 5 officers for no reason," the commenter, who identified himself as Ryan, said during the public‑comment portion of the meeting.

Ryan said the interactions have made him fearful for his safety and that he believes law‑enforcement actions have been expensive and poorly documented. He asked for additional time to present his full account; the chair, Sekou Sarlip, said the commission was time‑limited during the meeting but offered to meet with the commenter after the session and to add the matter to the July agenda.

"I can personally assure you that we will include you in the July agenda," Sarlip said. He and other commissioners offered to meet with Ryan after the meeting to discuss his allegations in more detail. No formal investigation, finding or action was announced at the meeting.

The remarks were made during the public‑comment period and represent the speaker's allegations. The commission's response, as recorded in the meeting, was to offer a one‑on‑one follow‑up and to schedule the speaker for the commission's July meeting.
