The Northside Board of Trustees on the call meeting authorized staff to publish a public notice of intent to apply for two federal grants and proceed with the application process.
Deputy Superintendent for Business and Finance Megan Bradley told trustees that board policy CB Local requires the district to notify the board and post a public notice on the district website before applying for federal grants. Bradley said the district posted two grant opportunities for public input: the Empowering Early Childhood Special Education Educators to Improve Student Outcomes grant, which would serve children 3 to 5 years old with disabilities, and a National Endowment for the Arts opportunity to support the district’s annual Los Lianas Arts Festival.
Bradley said the notice had already been posted on the district website to allow for public comment. Trustee Mrs. Freeman moved to approve the public notice; the motion was seconded and the board voted in favor. The board meeting transcript does not record individual recorded roll-call votes beyond the chair’s call for “aye” and the chair’s announcement that the motion passed.
The action is limited to authorizing the public notice and proceeding with the application process; the transcript does not record approval of grant acceptance or budget changes contingent on award.
Trustees and staff said the district will receive and consider public input before final decisions on accepting any awarded grant funds.
