At the July 17 meeting, Mr. McBain (legislative report) summarized recent outreach with local elected officials and said House Bill 1,500, described by the board as cyber charter accountability legislation, remains in the Senate Education Committee and is awaiting consideration. He also said HB 13 30 (as described in his report) had passed the House and moved to the Senate for further debate.
During the finance discussion, Dr. Bauer told the board that Title II, III and IV federal dollars were "on hold" for now and that a "rough number" for the district
ffected by the hold was "somewhere around $850,000." He said Title I was expected to be protected and that district leaders had contingency plans if the funds were not released. "We are planning to receive those dollars, but if not, we certainly have a fallback plan," he said, adding that the governor and others were pursuing legal avenues to release federal funds.
The board asked that future finance committee agendas include transparent updates on the status of federal funds so trustees and the public could track any impacts to staffing and programs. Administrators said the district could bridge the potential gap in the short term but would continue to monitor state and federal developments.
Ending: Trustees were advised to contact state legislators as needed, and administrators said they would share timelines and committee-level updates to keep the board informed.
