Superintendent: summer school attendance was substantial; detailed report to come

Trustee Anne Phillips asked the board for an update on summer school attendance; the superintendent said staff will provide a report at the next board meeting.
Superintendent Castro said summer school went well and that a formal report with highlights would be provided at the coming board meeting. When pressed for a rough figure, Castro said “I think that's actually very close. It was about 700.”
During board-member comments later in the meeting, another trustee described the number as “approximately I'm gonna say almost 600 students,” creating two different estimates in the record.
Trustees also noted that summer programs included multiple strands — for example, the district’s extended school-year/credit recovery programs and a multilingual academy — and that final attendance figures across those programs will be included in the superintendent’s report.
No vote or formal action was taken on summer school at this meeting; trustees said they expect a more complete update at the next regular meeting.
