ZBA approves single‑chair body‑art shop at Pleasant Street with hours limit

The Zoning Board of Appeals granted a special permit on July 17 allowing conversion of a commercial storefront at 212 Pleasant Street into a single‑chair body‑art (tattoo) establishment.
Attorney Peter Salino represented the property owner and said the tenant will operate by appointment with one customer at a time. The applicant proposed hours of operation from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday; the board included those hours as a condition of approval. The board also required signage comply with the city’s sign bylaw and noted there was no change to existing parking availability.
Chairman Joseph Perera emphasized that body‑art establishments are not permitted as-of-right citywide and require special-permit review. The board approved the special permit with conditions that limit operations to the hours specified, require signage in accordance with the bylaw, and maintain current parking arrangements.
What happens next: the owner must secure any required building permits, meet inspectional requirements and comply with the stated hours and signage conditions before operating.
