Village President Moran said at the July 14 Barrington Village Board meeting that the village will move forward on downtown streetscape improvements, a Park Avenue Plaza and two large water-system projects that will require “sizable financial resources.”
Moran said the Streetscape Beautification Project will replace downtown sidewalks, add garden beds and benches, and create outdoor dining areas, while the Park Avenue Plaza is intended as a downtown showcase to attract businesses. “We hope to have some semblance of completion by next year,” Moran said.
The village president described two less-visible but critical projects: an iron filtration project and wastewater treatment upgrades. “Both of these projects will be moving forward throughout the next couple years. Each is very important to the community and each will require sizable financial resources in order to complete,” Moran said.
Moran invited residents to a public works open house on Sept. 13 to see the facilities and learn more about the projects. He said the village will continue to update the community via the village website, mailers and e‑mail blasts.
Discussion at the meeting was informational; no ordinances or funding approvals tied to these projects were presented or adopted at this session. Moran said the village is also planning an expanded road program over the next few years to address deteriorating pavement.
Moran framed the projects as part of a broader effort to draw new businesses and restaurants to downtown Barrington and to increase community vibrancy. He urged residents to contact village staff directly rather than rely on social media for project details.
The presentation included a schedule for resident outreach (website updates and mailers) and the Sept. 13 public works open house; specific project budgets, funding sources and timelines were not specified at the meeting.
