County awards $9,450 contract to add ADA‑compliant sidewalk at fairgrounds

McLeod County commissioners on July 15 approved an estimate from Shower and Sons Construction Inc. of Glencoe for $9,450 to install a sidewalk at the McLeod County Fairgrounds connecting the northeast parking lot with Century Hall.
Public Works staff told the board that, with completion of Century Hall, the northeast parking lot is being used by guests but currently lacks an Americans with Disabilities Act‑compliant route to the building. The Fairgrounds Commission reviewed and supported the project.
A second quote from Creative Curb of Watkins was $21,700. Commissioners noted the low bid came from a local contractor and asked that work be completed before the fair; Public Works said the contractor planned to complete the sidewalk the week following approval.
Commissioner Wright moved to approve the Shower and Sons estimate; Commissioner Smalls seconded and the motion carried.
