Depoe Bay council appoints two new members; councilor resignation accepted effective immediately

The Depoe Bay City Council voted to fill two council vacancies by appointment and accepted an immediate resignation that will allow one appointee to be sworn in at the next meeting.

By amended motion the council appointed Bill Mazzella to the currently open seat and appointed Joe Cannon to the vacancy that will open on Aug. 1. Councilor Beasley moved to resign effective immediately; the motion to accept that resignation passed by voice vote.

Mayor explained the appointments and noted that both appointees were asked to attend an upcoming workshop and a work session concerning DEQ and a pending energy grant. "We have two excellent candidates," one councilor said during the discussion. Appointments were moved, amended, seconded and approved by the council.

The council scheduled orientation and asked staff to include the new members in an upcoming workshop about grant agreements and DEQ outreach. No roll-call tallies were recorded in the transcript; the minutes show voice votes with no recorded opposition.
