New owner buys 5125–27 Homan; board to proceed with rehab agreement and bond at later step

Darren Willis told the Board of Public Works and Safety on March 27 that he purchased 5125–27 Homan on March 17 and provided a copy of the deed and closing statement; because the sale closed, the board said it would not record the previously issued demolition order and will proceed with a rehabilitation agreement.

City staff explained they delayed recording the demo order because they expected the buyer to improve the property. Staff said the next step is a demo inspection and then a rehab agreement; any required bond would be posted when the rehab agreement is entered.

Willis asked whether the bond must be posted before recording the deed; staff said the bond is required at the time the rehab agreement is entered, not before. The board recorded no further action and told Willis to work with city inspector Mr. Lueder to complete the rehabilitation agreement process.

No timeline for the rehab work was provided at the meeting.
