Police and city staff press Marathon gas station owner to complete safety and accessibility fixes

City staff and police officers met with the owner and manager of the Marathon-branded gas station at 6502 Kennedy on April 24 to press for compliance with safety and site conditions.

Staff described incomplete items at the site that affect public safety and officer access: windows or window coverings that prevent interior viewing, graffiti on pumps, a missing dumpster enclosure, and an ADA path to the entrance partially blocked by a structure. Police representatives said they have attempted multiple times to schedule installation of a police-accessible camera/system and have been unable to connect with the manager or property representative to complete that installation.

The business owner, Jaswinder Sahi, and on-site manager, Alex Singh, told the board they would provide contact information and work with the police to schedule the camera installation. They also said they would remove unused window signage, address the donation box on the property, and continue regular cleaning; the owner described prior investment in pumps and regular cleaning schedules. Staff told the owners the city can issue a written notice to remove unauthorized items and that the police and city would follow up if issues persist.

Lieutenant representation and the assistant city planner attended the meeting. The board did not take a formal enforcement action at the session; staff said they will follow up with the police and with the owners to arrange camera access and to seek correction of the other identified problems.
