County to seek $175,000 increase for on-call door repair contract with DH Pace

Johnson County facilities management asked commissioners July 17 to increase expenditure authority for the term and supply contract with DH Pace Company for on-call door repair and maintenance by $175,000, bringing the requested annual contract cap to $300,000. Matt Dedekie, deputy director of facilities management, said the contract covers all door hardware and operators countywide, including overhead, interior, exterior and dock doors.

Dedekie said the department selected six older MEDAC sites for a targeted evaluation and training program to reduce failures at high-use overhead doors and that the planned program would service roughly 35 doors and gates at those locations as part of broader maintenance of more than 190 county overhead doors. He also noted higher parts costs and after-hours emergency rates for 24-hour facilities as drivers of increased costs.

Commissioners asked whether the $300,000 cap would apply annually for the three remaining 12-month renewal options in the bid; Dedekie confirmed the request covers those remaining renewal years. Commissioner Ashcraft asked for a brief cost-benefit review before final action; staff said they would provide more analysis to the board. No formal vote was recorded July 17; staff will present the item for action at the next meeting.
