Commissioners discussed county purchasing and bidding practices and noted a draft policy is under preparation.

Staff and commissioners said procurement thresholds vary by item type and that county statute requires bidding for construction, maintenance and bridge projects; staff cited a statutory threshold of $25,000 for bids. Commissioners also discussed department-level exemptions for certain movable items and said they are drafting a purchasing policy to clarify when formal bids are required.

One commissioner asked that the county keep procurement "in-house" where possible and to maintain competitive bidding for purchases the commissioners judge worth soliciting. Staff offered to share the draft policy with commissioners for review.
