Park board approves Bad Entertainment contract, permits Afternoon in the Park series pending insurance paperwork

The Elkhart City Park Board approved a contract with Michael Wells of Bad Entertainment to provide musical entertainment for the Afternoon in the Park concert series and granted the event permit contingent on legal approval of updated liability insurance documentation.

Board members listed scheduled concert dates as July 13, Aug. 17 and Sept. 14 and discussed a possible additional date on Oct. 2. The July date was described as a Motown band, the August date will feature performer Sean Richards, and organizers said the September date will focus on blues programming.

Members discussed event hours and noise issues; staff indicated the planned hours (afternoon times) are not expected to trigger a noise-ordinance exemption, and that the permit checklist did not require an exception. Staff also asked that the certificate of liability name both the city and the park board; board members approved the permit contingent on legal review of that updated certificate.

A motion to approve the contract and the permit (subject to legal approval of insurance) carried. Staff noted that final contract and permit issuance will follow once legal confirms the updated certificate.
