Norworth Borough Council on July 15 authorized a 10% advance deposit to Amtrak for the borough’s bridge construction project, approving a one-time wire transfer in the amount of $735,014. Staff said the deposit represents the contractually required 10% of the overall project cost and that funds had been reserved in last year’s budget.
At the meeting staff reported that a notice to proceed for the bridge project was issued the previous day, and that the deposit will allow Amtrak’s contractor to mobilize and begin work. Council asked staff to include a bridge update in the borough’s community newsletter so residents would know the project timeline and impacts; staff agreed.
Council voted 7–0 on the deposit after staff confirmed the funds were available and the notice to proceed had been authorized. Staff said the deposit and the previously issued notice will position the borough to start construction imminently.
