Kent County unveils redesigned government website focused on mobile users, security and tourism

County staff and partners presented a redesigned Kent County government website that they said is modern, mobile-responsive and emphasizes clearer navigation, improved security and an integrated tourism subsite.

IT and economic-development staff described a yearlong collaboration that paired technical work with marketing expertise from the county’s tourism and economic development teams. Demonstrations showed the current site and a preview of the new design. New features highlighted by presenters included a modern navigation, responsive layout for mobile devices, a dedicated news section, integrated social-media feeds (including emergency services, economic development and parks and recreation), an updated residents section organized for newcomers and long-time residents, and a tourism directory with dine-and-stay listings and a calendar of events.

Presenters said the new site reduces exposed email addresses by adding contact forms, adds spam protection, and substitutes an email form button to relay inbound requests to appropriate departments. They said the site’s security posture will be improved compared with the legacy site. Commissioners asked to review the new site before it goes live and suggested featuring periodic state-of-the-county updates or summary reports in the news section. Staff said the site would go live in the coming weeks pending final content updates.
