Board approves one-year extension of superintendent contract

The Greater Albany Public SD 8J board approved a one-year extension to the superintendent’s contract during Monday’s meeting and authorized a salary increase that board members said will be included in total compensation.

Board members said they compared the superintendent’s pay to other districts statewide and noted the district’s size ranking. “We are the fourteenth, ... our superintendent is compensated as the thirty-third best compensated superintendent in the state,” a board member said during discussion of market comparisons.

The contract extension adds one year to the superintendent’s current term and increases pay by an amount described by board members as smaller than increases provided to the district’s administrative team. Board members said the contract language and financial details will be posted on the district website for public review.
