City staff reported several business and downtown-development updates to the Economic Development Committee on June 24, including façade grant awards, new commercial activity and a popular summer kickoff event.
April, speaking for the Chamber, said a new business called Deli Mart Food and Restaurant has opened on the north side at 1931 North Shawano Street and that a ribbon cutting for Taqueria Luciano is scheduled for June 25 at noon. April also asked to present traffic and photo reports from the summer kickoff event next month; she said the event drew “just under 4,000 people.”
City Administrator Chad updated the committee on the city’s façade grant program. The City Council approved an additional $20,000 for the 2025 program; Chad said $16,000 of that infusion has already been awarded and that $4,000 remained in the program at the time of the meeting. Chad told the committee the program has supported multiple projects downtown and that “we've awarded $56,000 in funding and support,” which he said spurred additional private investment. He added the city “put $60,000 in it this year,” while noting further infusions would depend on reserves.
Chad listed recent façade grant awardees and project types: roof replacement at Goodwater Studio (102 Cook Street), exterior painting for the Wolf River Plaza (rebranded as New London Commons), exterior work at Upriver Enterprises (416 North Water Street) and signage/awning updates planned for Hilby's/New London Lanes at 300 Pearl Street. April also listed recent commercial property sales and price changes, including Hilby's (106 East Wilk River Ave), 102 North Ridge Drive (former Babe’s), 307 West North Water Street (former Olive and Rose Boutique), and a plaza at 30320 Old River Plaza under new ownership; Marley’s price reduction to $675,000 was also noted.
Committee members welcomed the updates and asked staff to present photos and traffic data from the summer kickoff at the next meeting.
