The Heritage Preservation Commission voted Wednesday to approve a Level 1 historic signs and facades grant application for window replacement at the Flagstaff Christian Fellowship, 123 South Beaver Street.
Staff told the commission the building is individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places and contributes to the Flagstaff Southside Historic District; the applicant applied for a $10,000 Level 1 award rather than the larger Level 2 award because exact material matches (yellow textured glass) could not be sourced and full custom replacement would be cost‑prohibitive. Commission discussion focused on ensuring the replacements preserve the historic pattern, paint colors and wood material where feasible; staff said the proposed replacements would keep divided‑light wooden sash and the original light pattern while updating to modern dual‑pane clear glass and slightly different opening hardware (casement vs. original hopper operation).
The motion to award a Level 1 historic signs and facades grant to the Flagstaff Christian Fellowship carried without objection.
The commission and staff noted the program currently has funds available for awards this fiscal year.
