The Monongalia County Board of Education on July 22 approved a recommendation for district banking services, with staff naming NBB Bank as the recommended bank.
Nicole, the procurement/finance staff member, outlined considerations the district weighed: the direct cost of switching banks, the need to maintain multiple accounts for outstanding checks, summer payroll processing, federal tax accounts and other platforms, and customer service. She said the district currently banks with MBB Bank and that institution has been responsive to the district’s needs.
Nicole said the district considered the cost of switching and customer‑service history: “Anytime that we have ever had a problem, MBB has always been there. They're very receptive to our needs.” She also said, “we currently have 6 boards or I'm sorry, 6 schools that bank with MBB and they are getting around $50,000 in interest.”
Board members asked questions about risks associated with a bank change. After discussion, the board moved, seconded and approved the banking‑services recommendation by voice vote.
Why it matters: District banking relationships affect payroll, tax payments and cash‑management; switching banks can create short‑term administrative costs and require multiple account reconciliations.
Next steps: Staff will proceed with the approved banking arrangement and manage the transition details and timelines.
