Town staff updated the Alton Board of Selectmen on July 22 on the state-managed Route 11 pulverization and reconstruction schedule, including mobilization beginning Aug. 4, work-zone preparations beginning Aug. 25 and phased traffic control through the autumn.
Town Administrator Ryan said the contractor will place pre-construction signage and detour notices to allow residents to plan for commute changes. According to the timeline included in the board packet, August 4 begins contractor mobilization, signage and detour messaging; August 25 marks the start of clearing, stump work and erosion control prep for the closure area outside Lakewood; a major construction phase extends into October, when alternating one-way traffic is anticipated; and a spring follow-up phase will address stabilization and any required cleanup or erosion repairs.
Ryan said the town had held a preconstruction meeting with state officials, the contractor and department heads and that the project includes cofferdam and sheet-piling operations where required. He said the state contractor will return in the spring to confirm stabilization results and to perform any necessary cleanup operations after winter weather.
The board asked staff to communicate schedules and staging details to affected residents, and Ryan said the town will publish event and staging information and follow up at the next meeting before the scheduled work begins.
