Neighbors say rail-yard noise worsened after industrial zoning change; call for city action

A resident of the RamPott neighborhood told the council July 22 that residents continue to experience frequent and disruptive noise from the nearby rail yard and urged the city to find a resolution after industrial rezoning of the site.

Rob Hogue, who gave his address and said the noise has escalated over the last four years, presented multiple recordings of squealing and screeching noises he said were from the rail yard and said the sounds occur "virtually every day." He said the problem began after the council changed zoning to industrial and asked the city to develop a solution to protect the neighborhood from excessive noise.

Hogue said the noise is audible from inside homes and from public streets and described the effect as a long-running quality-of-life issue. He asked the council to "think about what you're gonna do to provide the resolution" for residents who hear the rail-yard operations.

The comment was delivered during the second public comment period; the council did not take immediate action during the meeting but the complaint was recorded on the public record.
