Superintendent reports 74 resignations; board hears staffing context and rehiring details

Superintendent Bob O’Brien told the Terrebonne Parish School Board on July 1 that the personnel list for May 23–June 20, 2025, includes 74 resignations, of which 15 were certified teachers and 59 were noncertified degreed employees.

“Oout of the 15 certified, 8 of them moved out of state. 4 of them moved to a parish closer to their home… and 3 stayed home with their newborns,” O’Brien said during the meeting, describing reasons on the list.

O’Brien and staff explained that the district began listing degreed noncertified employees in 2024–25 after their contracts completed; many are then rehired because they are in alternative certification programs. The superintendent said that, to date, 37 of the people on this resignation list have already been rehired while participating in alternative certification programs.

Board members raised staffing concerns and sought reassurances about classroom coverage. One board member said they did not want the district to be shorthanded and noted the burden understaffing places on teachers and operations. Board member Matthew Ford and others described Terrebonne Parish as comparatively well positioned to recruit and retain employees, citing recent salary increases and benefits that they said had produced a strong applicant pool.

The board did not take a formal vote on the personnel report; the information was provided for the board’s review.
