The Lawrence City Utilities Board approved two sanitary sewer account adjustments for customers whose service lines leaked.
The board approved a $496.44 adjustment for an account at "7984 Through 7930 East 50 Third Street" due to a service line leak. The board also approved a $6,024.82 adjustment for the account at 8016 Lawrence Wood Woods Court. The utility superintendent said the larger leak discharged into the customer's sump pump pit and went undetected for a period before it was discovered and repaired; the superintendent said the unusually high consumption covered a three-month period.
The superintendent told the board the customer's consumption has returned to normal after the repair. A board member observed that the customer's average bill had been around $2,000 per month before the adjustment was discussed. Both adjustments were approved by motion and carried by voice vote.
