Staff told the commission there had been no known progress on repairs to the skylight of the former First Baptist rotunda at 802 Green Street, despite a COA approval that allowed repairs and included a 90-day update condition. Planning staff said a preservation/restoration group from Savannah had made inquiries about permitting, but no building or mothballing permits had been applied for and no on-site work had started.
The commission had approved COA 2528 in April to permit repairs and set a condition for a 90-day status update; staff said the owner remains within the COA’s six-month initiation period but that no permit activity was evident. Staff advised that mothballing, stabilization or repair permits coordinate through code enforcement/permitting channels and indicated they would follow up with code enforcement and the property owner.
Commissioners requested continued tracking and an update at a future meeting if permitting activity begins.
