Rodriguez elected chair and Quirk vice chair of Whittier Planning Commission

During the July 7, 2025 Planning Commission meeting commissioners nominated and voted to change leadership. A nomination was made to move the current vice chair to chair and make Commissioner Quirk the vice chair. The commission approved the nomination by unanimous roll call.

There was brief discussion about historical rotation and whether there is an established order for moving vice chairs into the chair position; staff and commissioners said there is no fixed order and the commission may nominate whomever it chooses. Commissioners confirmed the vote by roll call: Borsey, Cornejo, Quirk, Vice Chair Rodriguez, and Chair Connolly all voted yes on the motion that moved leadership roles. The commission then proceeded with the evening’s public hearings.

The change in leadership was procedural and the commission did not attach conditions or direction beyond the standard duties associated with the chair and vice chair roles.
