Board approves new sign for Capital University admission building at 2230 Mound Street

The Board of Zoning and Planning voted Thursday to grant appropriateness for a new sign on the admissions building at 2230 Mound Street for Capital University.

Staff said the building’s west-facing blank wall will receive a new sign intended to help prospective students and visitors locate the admissions center. The applicant described the sign as part of wayfinding and visitor orientation; staff said the city’s application review did not identify code conflicts and recommended approval.

During the hearing a representative from the university described the sign’s purpose as aligning admissions presence with prospective visitors arriving to campus and noted the city and university have installed temporary wayfinding in the past. The board read findings for application 20196 and voted to grant appropriateness as submitted.

No public objections were recorded at the hearing. The university will proceed to permitting and installation following the board’s approval and the city's sign code.
