Council authorizes $800 survey to assess Gold Creek Drive alignment and ownership questions

The Dawsonville City Council approved July 21 a roughly $800 survey to examine the top corner and nearby road segment of Gold Creek Drive after the item was tabled from a prior meeting. Public Works Director Trampus Ansar told the council he could arrange a survey of the specific segment so staff could determine whether the construction matches the approved plans.

Council and staff discussed whether the issue required repairing just a curb/curve or reconstruction of a longer section; council members expressed concern about compliance with city standards and whether the city should require the road be brought up to current specifications. Council member Caleb Phillips moved to authorize the survey at approximately $800, with direction that staff return with a cost estimate and recommended fixes if the survey shows the road was not built correctly. The motion included a follow‑up to perform title work to confirm the owner of the parcel; staff reported that the Gold Creek HOA owns the road but the Turner family may own the traversed tract in question.

City Attorney Kevin Tallent recommended obtaining a legal description and title work once the survey identifies the exact area at issue so the city can determine who is responsible for corrective work. Council voted to approve the survey and directed staff to report back with findings and cost estimates.
