Board approves fireworks contracts: up to $30,000 for Fourth of July, $5,000 for New Year's Eve

The Crown Point Board of Public Works and Safety on March 5 approved fireworks service agreements with vendor Matt Baumer: a contract not to exceed $30,000 for the Fourth of July display at the Lake County Fairgrounds and a separate, smaller New Year’s Eve show for $5,000.

Adam described the Fourth of July show as similar to last year’s production and asked the board to approve the not-to-exceed amount of $30,000; legal indicated the contract mirrors the prior year’s terms and recommended approval. The board approved the contract by motion, with no recorded opposition.

Adam said the New Year’s Eve fireworks would be a truncated display of approximately seven to 15 minutes (staff described the larger summer show as roughly 30–40 minutes and the smaller show as about 7–10 minutes during discussion). The board approved the $5,000 New Year’s Eve fireworks contract as presented.

Background: The city has used Matt Baumer previously for fireworks displays and staff said the vendor performed well and received public compliments. The board confirmed public-safety coordination will continue for fireworks events.
