Juh Young Manufacturing presented plans to expand with a new roughly 150,000-square-foot warehouse building on Highway 80 East next to an existing facility. The developer said the facility would access directly from Highway 80 and connect to city water and sewer. Company representatives estimated roughly 74 employees per shift and proposed two shifts for the facility.
When asked whether any DOT turn lanes were required, the applicant said they had discussed the project with the Department of Transportation and that DOT had verbally declined an acceleration or deceleration lane at that specific section of highway. “DOT didn’t want that right in there. We talked to them before we ever even started development plans,” the applicant said. The hearing was informational; there was no vote. Planning staff noted the matter would proceed through development-plan review and engineering as required.
Because the item was a public hearing, the commission did not take formal action that night.
