Oak Grove Baptist plans to rebuild church; neighborhood association supports retention-pond drainage plan and plat approved

Oak Grove Baptist Church brought a development plan and final plat for a one-acre property on Woodley Circle in an AG-1 zoning district. Steven Speaks, with William Speaks and Associates, said the proposal would demolish the existing structure and construct a new building with associated parking and stormwater detention, using the existing driveway and utility connections.
Mary Phelan Jackson, president of the Macedonia Community Association, spoke in favor of the project and thanked the church and applicant for communicating with the neighborhood, specifically mentioning the planned retention pond to address neighborhood drainage concerns. “We... full heartedly... support over that research and items number 8 and items number 9,” Jackson said.
The commission received public comment, and commissioners thanked the applicant for neighborhood outreach. The related final plat for the same one-acre site was presented and a motion to approve the plat passed unanimously. The development plan was considered during a public hearing (no final vote at that hearing); the final plat approval moves the project forward to subsequent permits and construction review.
