Village fire department promotes two firefighters to lieutenant with stipend

The village fire chief announced promotions for two department members, identified in the meeting as Riley and Cassie Fagan, to the rank of lieutenant, and said those positions carry added responsibility and a monthly stipend.

Chief said the lieutenant role includes supervision of an engine or ambulance crew, responsibility for training or other assigned concentratons, and functioning as the conduit between rank-and-file firefighters and management at incidents. The chief described the promotion process as competitive and involving interviews.

Board members congratulated the promoted members and commended the department for a busy June. The chief said lieutenants receive an increased stipend for the additional responsibilities but did not specify the stipend amount in the meeting.
