Board advances MOUs to help district employees pursue degrees through Hampton University online

The Allentown School District’s finance/operations committee on July 24 moved forward four memorandums of understanding enabling district employees to pursue credentials through Hampton University Online.

Staff said the initiative is part of a “grow‑our‑own” effort to expand professional pathways for non‑teaching personnel. The MOUs cover three employee groups and a fourth agreement with individual participants. Presenters said the program supports internal advancement, strengthens employee engagement and may help with retention by creating long‑term career opportunities within the district; a staff example cited in the meeting noted a former security officer who earned credentials through Hampton and later moved into a teacher role.

Committee members asked no substantive questions and moved the item forward to the regular board meeting for final approval.
