Bruceville‑Eddy council approves exit‑interview process for departing employees

The Bruceville‑Eddy City Council voted July 24 to adopt an exit‑interview process for departing employees, after a council member requested a formal way to gather information about turnover and workplace issues. Council member Mr. Wiggins moved to approve the process and Joyce seconded the motion; the council voted in favor.

Council discussion emphasized the value of consistent data for understanding why employees leave and whether departures are due to compensation, working conditions or other factors. Several members said department heads should generally be excluded from conducting exit interviews so departing employees could speak candidly. A council member proposed that the mayor and the city administrator handle exit interviews, with the mayor conducting interviews for employees who report directly to the city administrator.

City staff will draft the formal procedure consistent with those directions and present it to council. The policy is intended to produce feedback the council can use to shape recruitment, retention and compensation decisions.
