Consultant previews master plan update and community engagement for Central 2045

At the zoning meeting the commission heard a presentation from consultant Steve Villavassa of Bassett & Associates on an update to the city’s master plan, an effort he said has included five community engagement activities over the past year.

Villavassa told commissioners the process to update the master plan has involved a major kickoff plus four additional community events. He asked commissioners to review maps and materials prepared by the consultant team as part of a Central 2045 master-plan update. No formal actions or votes were taken; the session served as a workshop and informational briefing.

Why it matters: a master-plan update guides future land use, growth, parks and infrastructure decisions and sets a framework for future zoning and subdivision decisions. Villavassa’s briefing is an early-stage check-in to keep the commission apprised of public engagement outcomes and draft map changes.

Next steps: the consultant and staff will continue community engagement and refine maps and recommendations before returning with formal proposals that may require commission review or adoption at a later date.
