Crafton council adopts nondiscrimination resolution; repeal of EEO board set for August hearing

Crafton Borough Council adopted Resolution 2025-12 on July 24 to set nondiscrimination policies required for an Environmental Protection Agency-funded Broadhead source separation project, and to appoint a civil-rights coordinator and an alternate.

The resolution establishes nondiscrimination policies for borough employment and borough-sponsored activities, creates a grievance procedure and names a borough official as the civil-rights coordinator with an alternate (the council vice president) to serve if a conflict arises. Councilmember discussion led to a small amendment to explicitly name an alternate civil-rights coordinator before the measure passed by voice vote.

Separately, council discussed a proposed repeal of the borough's Chapter 95 discrimination ordinance, which created a borough-level EEO board in 2020. Staff said no complaints have been filed under that board while the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission has established complaint-handling procedures and hotline access for municipalities. Council scheduled the ordinance repeal for consideration and formal advertisement at the Aug. 14 council meeting.

Ending: The nondiscrimination policies adopted will be posted and updated contact information inserted; the EEO board repeal will be advertised for the Aug. 14 agenda and proceed through the standard ordinance-adoption process at that meeting.
