Board hears Dallas High personnel update: Jim Taylor named assistant principal and athletic director; interim AP posting to follow

District staff informed the board that Jim Taylor will serve as assistant principal and athletic director at Dallas High School and that the district will post an interim assistant principal position for the 2025–26 school year.

Director Katie Kelly said she received email notification a few hours before the meeting and asked whether the interim appointment covered the 2025–26 school year. A district representative confirmed the interim posting is for the 2025–26 year; the athletic duties were moved back to the high school and combined with an assistant principal role.

Board members asked whether enrollment and job scope justify two vice principals. A staff member responded that the high school’s enrollment “usually averages over 800 students every year” and fluctuates between about 750 and 800, and said that level supports having two administrators at the site.

Directors requested that personnel updates be included in the August report and signaled interest in reviewing how future administrative hires and duties align with board policies and collaboration expectations.
