Brook Park council amends 2025 appropriations ordinance to refill several departments, add staffing and prepare for winter

Brook Park City Council on Tuesday adopted Ordinance 11472, an amendment to the 2025 appropriations ordinance, adding and reallocating funds across several general‑fund and special‑fund accounts.

Finance Director Bob McGahn reviewed the principal adjustments: a $67,000 increase for the correctional facility (to add a jailer position), roughly $11,400 for additional personnel in other public‑safety roles, $13,680 added to the Office on Aging for part‑time help, a $20,000 add for snow‑removal preparations, a $38,000 reclassification related to roads that shifts overtime to capital outlay for the Sylvia Road project, $4,700 in the law‑enforcement fund for new badges, and approximately $6,297.32 added to a street‑lighting account tied to grant purchases. The ordinance also removed a $15,000 special‑election allocation that will not be needed this year.

Council members asked clarifying questions about specific line items, reclassifications tied to capital projects and whether the animal‑warden line included additional personnel costs; finance staff confirmed those were personnel adjustments. The ordinance was placed on the agenda and adopted under suspension of the rules.

Finance Director McGahn also told council the Senate budget proposal for a regional stadium project would be paid in cash if adopted, which he said would save the state borrowing costs; the finance department will publish May financials next week and auditors will conclude their work in June.
