Scott County HR asks board to extend field-training officer supplemental pay for corrections through Dec. 31, 2025

Human-resources staff asked the board to continue a temporary increase to field-training officer (FTO) supplemental pay for the county jail’s correctional staff.

Vanessa, representing HR, said the FTO supplement was raised from $2 per hour to $5 per hour to support recruitment and retention and has been extended multiple times since August 2022. The current authorization expired June 30, 2025; HR requested the board extend the supplemental pay through Dec. 31, 2025 at the sheriff’s request.

Vanessa told supervisors the department currently has six vacant correction-officer positions, and training and recruitment efforts continue; she said a group of six recruits is expected to start on July 14. The supplemental pay has helped retain trainers and maintain continuity in the onboarding process for new officers.
