Board approves multiple event street closures and one emergency work closure

The Board of Public Works and Safety on July 24 approved a set of street closures for fall events and granted a short emergency work closure requested by Indiana Earthworks.
The board approved the Fourth Street Fair’s request to block sections of South Fourth Street and adjacent side streets for the festival’s 40th anniversary. The request described event dates as Saturday, Oct. 4 and Sunday, Oct. 5, with closure of some streets beginning at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, and remaining in place through Sunday at 6 p.m. The staff presentation said residents on South Fourth Street would be notified about parking adjustments.
The board also approved a request for the Earlham Homecoming Bash on Friday, Oct. 10, with street closures on East Main between Ninth and Tenth streets from about 4 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. The request said the organizers had secured two Richmond Police Department officers for security and that the street department would provide road closure services; the presentation said none of the businesses on the block should be affected.
Separately, the board approved an additional closure for the Downshift for Down syndrome car show: North Seventh Street from Main to A (in addition to an earlier-approved closure of North Sixth Street) to accommodate an expected larger turnout.
Staff also presented an emergency closure request from Indiana Earthworks for North Sixth Street from Main to South A for temporary work expected to last "about two more days." The presenter gave dates in the meeting as "the 20 first through the 20 sixth," which could not be confirmed from the record; the board approved a short-term closure by voice vote.
Each item passed on voice votes with no objections recorded on the meeting transcript.
